Toshikata Mizuno (1866 - 1908)
Toshikata studied woodblock making from the age of 13 under Taiso Yoshotoshi, and later studied painting with Watanabe Shotei. At 20, he became a porcelain painter.
Toshikata mainly produced Sino-Japanese war (1894 / 95 ) prints at a time when interest in ukiyo-e printmaking making had initially decreased. The prints produced during the war briefly revived interest in ukiyo-e, however this interest did not last.
After 1900 Toshikata was a well known illustrator as well as painter and print maker, and became a teacher of other artists such as Kaburagi Kiyokata, Ikeda Shoen, and Ikeda Terukata.
